“We were delighted to welcome Lord Sugar on his visit to Jewish Care’s Sugar & Ronson Campus to see how rapidly the project is progressing,” said Jewish Care CEO Daniel Carmel-Brown.
“The build and finish stage is complete in The Sugar Family Care home. The final touches are being made to The Ronson Community Centre and The Dennis Centre for people living with dementia. In the coming months, the whole building will really begin to feel homely as we start to take delivery of the furniture and decorative pieces.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the community as we open our new first-class campus this summer. It will serve and strengthen the Jewish community in Essex and north east London, now and for generations to come and will see our long-held vision become a reality.

The Sugar family have been long standing supporters of Jewish Care, showing unwavering commitment to the organisation over many decades by generously supporting Jewish Care’s services in Essex and East London, in addition to their ongoing support for the wider organisation. Sir Gerald Ronson CBE and Dame Gail Ronson DBE, have been avid and incredibly generous supporters of Jewish Care showing exceptional commitment over many years.
It was a privilege to show Lord Sugar and Sir Gerald Ronson around the site and to thank them in person for their leadership and generosity. We are also hugely grateful to all the key donor families for their ongoing support, as well as Hamberley Developments Limited and Patron Capital, and to every person who contributed to Jewish Care’s Always Essex fundraising campaign.
The Sugar & Ronson Campus will serve as a landmark hub, transforming the way we care for, connect and reach out to the Jewish community, bringing our local Jewish Care services under one roof in a modern, inclusive, and welcoming space.
At the heart of the campus is the 66-bed Sugar Family Care Home, designed with dignity, comfort, and community in mind. The home will provide nursing, residential, dementia and end-of-life care with options for respite and short-term stays. It will have stunning views of the City and surrounding green spaces with ground floor rooms opening directly onto a patio area. There will be bright, sociable lounges to connect with others and peaceful cosy areas to enjoy time with friends and family. A dedicated family function room will be perfect for celebrating birthdays or anniversaries or having Friday night dinners together. The interiors across the campus are designed by Park Grove, creating elegant, warm, dementia-friendly, accessible environments.
Residents at Jewish Care’s Vi & John Rubens House care home will be the first to benefit from this wonderful resource.
One resident at the home, Pauline, 85, says, “I’ve lived here for around three years and I’m very happy here. It was the best move for me and I’m looking forward to the new Campus.”
The Sugar Family Care Home has been designed with comfort and dignity in mind to aid with compassionate, person-centred residential, nursing, dementia and end-of-life care, with options for respite stays for those recovering from illness or in need of temporary 24-hour support.
The home will include dedicated synagogue services and offer fully licensed kosher meals respecting Jewish spiritual and cultural needs. Across the Campus there will be opportunities to enrich Jewish life in Essex and the wider community, ensuring Shabbat and festivals are joyfully celebrated and traditions remain strong.
The Ronson Community Centre will be the vibrant heart of the Jewish community – where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together. A rich and varied programme will be tailored to the interests and needs of our community. It will be a social hub with flexible activity spaces to meet friends for a kosher croissant and coffee in the café or enjoy a meaty meal at the only licensed kosher restaurant in the area. An exciting and varied programme will run with discussion groups, evening events and daily activities including table tennis, live entertainment, dancing, card games and exercise classes.
The Dennis Centre for people living with dementia, set in The Sugar & Ronson Campus, will continue to offer specialist, person-centred support for people living with mild to moderate memory impairment or dementia in the new modern space. The dementia-friendly design will create a calm and safe space for members to feel comfortable. The warm Jewish environment, along with the caring, expert staff and dedicated volunteers, will foster wellbeing and social connection.
The Sugar & Ronson Campus will also be home to our Social Work and Community Support Team, the Meals on Wheels hub, Jewish Care Explore, and Jami’s community mental

The new campus is a sustainable, future-focused development and will achieve a strong BREEAM rating, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
