“We were delighted to welcome Lord Sugar on his visit to Jewish Care’s Sugar & Ronson Campus to see how rapidly the project is progressing,” said Jewish Care CEO Daniel Carmel-Brown.
“The build and finish stage is complete in The Sugar Family Care home. The final touches are being made to The Ronson Community Centre and The Dennis Centre for people living with dementia. In the coming months, the whole building will really begin to feel homely as we start to take delivery of the furniture and decorative pieces.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the community as we open our new first-class campus this summer. This will be an incredible milestone moment for the community. The Sugar & Ronson Campus will serve and strengthen the Jewish community in Essex and north east London, now and for generations to come.”

At the heart of the new first-class campus, The Sugar Family Care Home will provide nursing, residential, dementia and end-of-life care with options for respite and short-term stays. The Sugar Family Care Home will offer a home-from-home experience where the comfort, accessibility and wellbeing of the residents come first. Residents at Jewish Care’s Vi & John Rubens House care home will be the first to benefit from this wonderful resource.
One resident at the home, Pauline, 85, says, “I’ve lived here for around three years and I’m very happy here. It was the best move for me and I’m looking forward to the new Campus.”
The Sugar Family Care Home has been designed with comfort and dignity in mind to aid with compassionate, person-centred residential, nursing, dementia and end-of-life care, with options for respite stays for those recovering from illness or in need of temporary 24-hour support.
The home will include dedicated synagogue services and offer fully licensed kosher meals respecting Jewish spiritual and cultural needs. Across the Campus there will be opportunities to enrich Jewish life in Essex and the wider community, ensuring Shabbat and festivals are joyfully celebrated and traditions remain strong.
Within The Sugar & Ronson Campus, The Ronson Community Centre will be the vibrant centre of the Jewish community – where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to enjoy a rich and varied programme. It will be a place where connection and community spirit come alive. An exciting and varied programme will run with discussion groups, evening events and daily activities including table tennis, live entertainment, dancing, card games and exercise classes.
Visitors, members, and family will be able to enjoy a delicious kosher breakfast and lunch and tuck into a hearty lunch from the only licensed kosher restaurant in the area.
The Dennis Centre for people living with dementia, set in The Sugar & Ronson Campus, will offer specialist, person-centred support for people living with mild to moderate memory impairment or dementia in the new modern space. A warm, dementia-friendly design will create a calm and safe space for members to feel comfortable.
The Sugar & Ronson Campus will also house a range of wide services including Jami’s mental health services, social work support, Jewish Care Explore for technology support and the charity’s Meals on Wheels hub.
