This week, Dame Gail Ronson DBE, Jewish Care’s Honorary President and Royal Opera House Honorary Trustee together with Sir Lloyd Dorfman CVO CBE, Chairman of the Royal Opera House, who have been dedicated supporters of Jewish Care for many years, kindly hosted Jewish Care’s Annual Legacy Event. At the magical evening at the Royal Opera House, they thanked the organisation’s legacy pledgers, supporters and friends.
Dame Gail Ronson and Sir Lloyd Dorfman spoke warmly and inspiringly, expressing their passion for both the Royal Opera House and Jewish Care. Dame Gail shared with guests, “I have many wonderfully fond memories of both organisations, both have a deep-rooted history going back over two centuries, one a beacon of artistic excellence and cultural heritage, the other a beacon of light in the world of adult social care, and the largest Jewish charity in the country.
“Since its establishment in 1732, the Royal Opera House has undergone numerous transformations, each adding to its rich history and culture. The same can be said for Jewish Care whose roots can be traced back to the Jewish Welfare Board in 1859, it too has weathered many a storm from war to a recession, and a global pandemic, thanks to the support of the community. Through amalgamations with 11 different organisations, the most recent one Jami – it too has emerged stronger, and now touches the lives of more people than ever.”
Jewish Care’s new Chair, Marcus Sperber, and Trustee, Leah Hurst, spent the evening chatting with guests, celebrating the connection and generosity of our supporters to Jewish Care over the years.
Speaking at the event, Marcus said, “We are hugely grateful to Dame Gail and Sir Lloyd for all their incredible support and dedication to Jewish Care over the years and for inviting us to hold our wonderful Annual Legacy Event in the grandeur of the Royal Opera House. With over a quarter of Jewish Care’s fundraising income resulting from legacy gifts, legacies play a crucial role in maintaining many of our vital services which receive no government funding.
“Never has it been more important for us to come together and shine our light, to make a difference in any way we can, to support our community and to ensure our Jewish values and our Jewish traditions are upheld, cherished and supported for future generations – that will be all of our legacies.”
At the end of the uplifting evening, one of the guests, a legacy pledger, shared, “It was such a special evening and I felt so connected to the work that Jewish Care does that I’ve decided to increase my pledge to Jewish Care’s amazing work supporting our community.”
