
Older people across Jewish Care and clients at Jami, part of Jewish Care, are enjoy celebrating, making hamantaschen, dressing up, and hearing the Megillah at Purim parties across care homes, Retirement Living apartments, community centres and community hubs.
At Jewish Care’s Redbridge Jewish Community Centre staff dressed up and performed a fun Fiddler on the Roof Purim spiel at their lively Purim party, whilst at Rosetrees care homes, the care team donned inflatable animal costumes creating a spectacle of fun for the residents at the Purim party.
Meanwhile, in the week of Purim, hundreds of pupils have danced their way into Purim at Jewish Care’s Purim Zumba. Pupils from five schools and three nurseries have come together for this annual fundraising initiative, aimed at supporting Dance Therapy sessions for Jewish Care’s centres for people living with dementia, supporting the older members of our community.
Children from one to eleven years old have been taking part in Jewish Care’s ninth Purim Zumbathon, with sponsored Zumba sessions led by Mouve with Dancing with Louise.
Dancing their way to Purim have been primary schools and nurseries – Beit Shvidler, Nancy Reuben, Eden, Sacks Morasha, Hasmonean, Kerem, Mathilda Marks, and Akiva as well as Little Bicks Borehamwood, Little Bicks Mill Hill Shul, Little Bicks Stanmore.
Ellisa Estrin, Jewish Care’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing said, “We are so excited to celebrate Purim as a community together at parties filled with joy, laughter, and community spirit, supported by our dedicated staff and amazing volunteers across Jewish Care and Jami, part of Jewish Care.
“It’s been fantastic to see hundreds of children and young people at nurseries and schools getting into the Purim spirit at Jewish Care’s Purim Zumba. I would like to thank them all for taking part and having fun at the Purim Zumbas, whilst raising funds for dance therapy at our dementia day centres and fulfilling the mitzvah of supporting others on Purim.”
