Over 120 children and their parents enjoyed Jewish Care Families Intergenerational Chanukah Party at the Michael Sobell Jewish Community Centre, with residents from Otto Schiff care home at Jewish Care’s Maurice and Vivienne Wohl Campus.
Children made dreidel and Chanukiah art, with some of the young children gifting their dreidels to the residents. The children enjoyed the parachute, balloons, bubbles, and story time.
Lily 3, and Yasmin, 2, made Chanukiahs with mum Debra, who said, “Thank you for a really wonderful party – the kids loved it!’
Zara, 100, said, “I’ve had the most fabulous afternoon thank you,” and Rita Tack, also 100, added, “I’ve had a lovely time, the children are lovely.”
Sara, who is 6, said, “I loved doing the art, I made a Chanukiah.”
Jewish Care’s Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Ellisa Estrin, says, “It was fantastic to see so many members of the community of all ages connecting and creating an incredibly warm and joyful atmosphere at our Chanukah party. These intergenerational community events and activities across our care homes and community centres are so important, benefitting everyone involved.
“The funds raised will help to support us in our work, caring for older people across the community and celebrating Jewish festivals. We’d like to thank all the children, family members and residents who joined us for this special celebration.”
The party was led by Jennifer David from Debutots who runs intergenerational, interactive activities for children and residents at Jewish Care homes. Jennifer adds, “Debutots is passionate about running imaginative activities for children, as well as using our sessions to encourage intergenerational relationships, so it was a joy and privilege to collaborate with Jewish Care to create a fun-filled multi-sensory Chanukah party for all to enjoy. Chag Sameach!”
