This Sunday, six Jewish Care supporters showed their dedication by pounding the streets of the capital, running the 26.2miles of the TCS London Marathon raising over £14,000, so far, for Jewish Care.
Ben Pollock who lives in NW11, Rikki Lewis from Finchley have run the marathon for Jewish Care previously, in support of the amazing care that their relatives have received in our care homes. Lydia Seager from Watford, Menachem Breindel, Oscar Spalter who is from Mill Hill and Richard Garnham from Bounds Green, all ran their first marathon in support of Jewish Care.
Rikki, 36, who ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon in 2018 and the London Marathon in 2019 for Jewish Care, says “Despite making a promise to never run a marathon again, I would like to ask all my friends and family to sponsor me for the April 2023 London Marathon.”
“My Poppa was in his happy place, surrounded by family. He spent the last two years of his life at Jewish Care’s Rosetrees care home, a place that enabled him to receive the care, respect and dignity that all people living with dementia deserve. I am raising money on behalf of the charity and in particular the care home that offers palliative care and invaluable support to all their residents and family members. Any donation would be massively appreciated.”
Ben Pollock ran the London Marathon for Jewish Care in 2021 and is showing his dedication by putting in the training and covering the 26.2miles again to support the charity this year.
“Jewish Care is very close to my heart. My family has been involved with the charity for many years. My mum and dad are Jewish Care volunteers, my late grandpa was a volunteer and my late grandma received respite care at a Jewish Care home,” says Ben.
“Jewish Care has been invaluable in supporting us and I am very pleased to run for Jewish Care again and know that the funds raised will help them to continue with the fantastic work they do, supporting people in the community in life-changing ways.”
Lydia, who is running her first marathon, says, “Running the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine, but I have never been naturally sporty or athletic. This will be a major challenge for me, but I am so excited to run the marathon and raise money for an extremely important charity that makes a huge difference in the lives of so many people.”
After the marathon, Lydia said, “Thank you to Jewish Care for the opportunity, what an amazing day!”
Oscar said, “It was the most incredible day, thank you to everyone at Jewish Care for being so supportive.”
Jewish Care’s Director of Fundraising and Community Engagement, Adam Overlander-Kaye, says, “We’re so incredibly proud of all our runners and thankful to all of them for taking on this amazing challenge, some for a second time, to raise vital funds for Jewish Care to support our services for older people in the community.
“I hope others will feel inspired to run for Jewish Care or take up a challenge, whether it is to remember a close relative or friend who has been cared for by Jewish Care or simply to support a good cause, setting a goal can help to stay motivated to exercise and get fitter, whilst helping others.”
