Brighton and Hove Jewish Home – Registered Charity Number 802559 (‘the Charity’)
The Charity previously ran the care home Hyman Fine House for eligible Jewish people in Sussex, near 20 Burlington Street, Brighton BN2 1AU. Jewish Care, registered charity number 802559 (‘the Trustee’) is the sole corporate trustee of the Charity. Due to prevailing socio-economic circumstances, it was no longer cost effective to provide the care home and after due consideration and consultation with stakeholders the Trustee closed and disposed of Hyman Fine House, under a power of sale contained within the governing document of the Charity. The Trustee intends to use the proceeds of sale to provide better, more suitable and sustainable care for those in the Jewish community in Sussex. To enable this, the Trustee seeks to amend the purposes of the Charity, as detailed in its governing document, to the following:
For the benefit of persons being aged, poor and/or ailing persons of the Jewish Faith, who are not under the age of 60 years and who have resided continuously in the county of Sussex for a period of not less than six months.
The Charity Commission for England and Wales is aware of this proposal.
