More than 240 people joined Jewish Care for a Business Breakfast at The Savoy Hotel, raising over £55,000 for our core services.
During the breakfast, donors heard from Marks & Spencer Chairman, Archie Norman, who discussed his experience in business, emerging from the pandemic, and about the history and present challenges of Marks & Spencer.
Archie Norman is the only person to have been chairman of a FTSE 100 company and a Member of the House of Commons at the same time. From 1991 until 1999, he was Chief Executive and then Chairman of Asda, and from January 2010 to January 2016, was the chairman of ITV plc.
Archie Norman was elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Tunbridge Wells in 1997 and served as a shadow minister for the environment in 1999. From February 2000 to September 2001, he was Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Transport and the Regions. In May 2005, he officially stood down as an MP, and in October 2016, was appointed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy as its Lead Non-Executive Board Member.
Archie Norman became the chairman of Marks & Spencer in September 2017.
