Last week, award winning artist, Craig David, paid a visit to Jewish Care’s Holocaust Survivor’s Centre (HSC) to meet with members, listen to their stories and hear more about what the centre does, ahead of performing at Jewish Care’s Annual Dinner last night.
Whilst visiting the Centre, Craig David sung a beautiful “thank you” melody to the survivors for everything they have done for future generations to educate people about the Holocaust.
Craig David’s father came over to the UK from the Caribbean with the Windrush generation, and like many Survivors who resettled in countries that were not their own, experienced prejudice as someone who was of a different background, race, and culture in what was a strange and unfamiliar country.
Craig David asked HSC member, Ivor Perl BEM, if there were any messages, wisdom or advice that he would pass down to try and ensure the horrors of the Holocaust will not happen again. Ivor replied, “A lot of us give a lot of talks and there isn’t one word mentioned about hate in our speeches, so I say that love can get you a lot further than hate.”
Craig David was visibly moved by this response, giving Ivor a hug and kiss on the cheek.
Following the visit, Ivor said “I speak on behalf of my fellow survivors and refugees when I say what a privilege it was to meet with Craig, he is a true mensch!”.
Craig David has 20 UK Top 40 singles and seven UK Top 40 albums, selling over 15 million records worldwide.
