During World Alzheimer’s Month, Leila, who is one of Jewish Care’s (Relief) Activities Coordinators, skydived from over 13,000 feet on Sunday to raise funds for special intergenerational activities at Otto Schiff specialist dementia care home, and Rela Goldhill care home for people living with physical disabilities at the Maurice & Vivienne Wohl Campus.
Leila, who has shown her passion and commitment in supporting others, says, “I was a little bit scared and worried before I jumped but then after a big shock, I started enjoying the view and it was amazing! I’m so happy I fundraised for our residents’ to enjoy these activities and did a skydive for the first time,” says Leila,
“I decided to take on this challenge to raise a target of £3,000, thank you to everyone who has supported us, it means the world to me, and it’s not too late to donate! Every contribution brings us closer to making a meaningful impact to help fund intergenerational with visits from children and special activities like cooking sessions and more for the residents. Together, we can make a real difference.“
Kemi Ariba, Registered Care Home Manager at Jewish Care’s Otto Schiff and Rela Goldhill care homes, added, “We are very proud of Leila and thankful to all the donors. Leila was very excited to do the jump, and she is now an Otto Schiff celebrity. Doing this jump showed bravery and determination after many cancellations and the funds raised will support residents’ activities. Go Leila, go Otto and go Jewish Care!”
Danuta Krysiak, Social Care Coordinator at Otto Schiff care home, who has worked for Jewish Care for 25 years, and works together with Leila, adds, “Leila is amazing with residents and her skydive has generated a lot of excitement among residents, relatives, staff, volunteers and friends, and the big Jewish Care family. It’s incredible that she was happy to jump out of the plane to fundraise for additional activities at Otto Schiff and we are very grateful to every donor, including our amazing volunteer driver, David, who drove all the way to skydive at Hinton Airfield, and most of all to Leila for her brave and generous act.“
