The community has donated an amazing £1 million to help make Jewish Care’s vision a reality in the charity’s first ever community fundraising campaign, Always Essex which took place in May. The campaign has helped to raise funds for our upcoming first-class care and community campus in Redbridge.
Always Essex was proudly supported by donors who have a place in their heart for the Essex community, whether they live in the area today, have their roots in Essex or north east London, or are just keen to be part of building the future of Jewish Care in Redbridge.
Jewish Care CEO Daniel Carmel-Brown, who grew up and lives in Essex and began his working life in the Redbridge Jewish Community Centre, says, “We are so grateful and we thank each and every person in the community who has generously donated to the campaign to help us to complete our vision of a much-needed, new, first-class care and community campus to meet the needs of the community, now and in the future.
“We are pleased to invite the local community on hard hat tours in the coming weeks to share our excitement and to see the development take shape.”
The new first-class care and community campus will change the landscape for our community across north east London and Essex – bringing all of our local Jewish Care services supporting young and old, under one roof.
Jewish Care in Redbridge has meant so much to generations of families and now, Jewish Care is building a truly special, brand-new care and community campus for the future, a place where people of all generations can be together.
We are also pleased to invite the local community on hard hat tours to share our excitement and to see the development take shape. You can book onto one of our hard hat tours of the campus by clicking here

Recently, we were delighted to welcome members of the Sugar and Ronson families, our generous cornerstone donors, along with key members of the Redbridge community, for a tour of the new campus.
It is thanks to the incredible commitments and outstanding generosity from Lord Sugar and his family, together with the Ronson family via The Gerald and Gail Ronson Family Foundation, that this much-needed care and community campus is becoming a reality for the local community. The Sugar family have been long-standing supporters of Jewish Care, showing unwavering commitment to the organisation over many decades by generously supporting Jewish Care’s services in Essex and East London, in addition to their ongoing support for the wider organisation. Sir Gerald Ronson CBE and Dame Gail Ronson DBE too have been avid and incredibly generous supporters of Jewish Care showing exceptional commitment over many years.
Alongside this, Jewish Care wants to give special thanks to The Sir Clive Bourne Family Trust, Paula & Daren Burney, the Dennis Family, the Goldstein Family, John & Tali Klipp & Family, Madeleine Turner and the Hazel Spear Charitable Trust. We also gratefully acknowledge gifts made in loving memory of Stan & Pearl Dobrin, Anita Frankle, Lottie Lewis, Vi and John Ruben, Mark Spiegler and Kathrin Szlezinger. Additional commitments and funds have been raised by the Redbridge Aid Golf Society, the Local Angels Committee, and the Redbridge Sports Committee, we have been hugely supported by Hamberley Developments Limited and Patron Capital as our Development Coordinator.
The new campus will incorporate The Dennis Centre for people living with dementia which will retain its name, thanks to the ongoing support of the Dennis family. It will also provide a communal space and the base for our Meals on Wheels hub service with deliveries by volunteers across the Essex and north east London area including Southend, Bethnal Green and Stepney. It will be home to the Social Work and Community Support Team, supporting members of the Essex and north East London community and their family carers, as well as the MIKE youth leadership programme and the Jami’s Redbridge community hub.
This is Jewish Care’s fourth development hub and is part of Jewish Care’s strategic vision for multiple campuses across London and the South East to support our community. Once the care and community campus is completed and ready, all these services will come together under one roof for the first time, ensuring comprehensive care and support for the community.
You can view the latest time-lapse film of the development so far below.
The building work for the new campus commenced in February 2024 and is progressing rapidly. The foundations were completed in April, and the structure has now taken shape. The majority of the building’s skeleton, including all floors and most of the roof, has been completed.
The development’s Excellent rating reflects its high level of sustainability, placing it among the top 10% of environmentally responsible buildings. Designed for minimal energy consumption and reduced carbon emissions, it incorporates high standards of health and well-being, responsible material sourcing, efficient waste management, and water conservation. Key features include rooftop solar panels and a green roof with vegetation such as grasses, moss, and wildflowers, further enhancing its environmental impact.
The building and interiors are thoughtfully designed to support individuals with mobility challenges. Jewish Care has partnered with Park Grove, a specialist care home interior design company, renowned as industry leaders for designing dementia-friendly and accessible care environments.
The campus is designed with dementia-friendly features to enhance the quality of life for residents and centre members, offering a safe, more supportive, and engaging environment.
The development features level flooring throughout to ensure easy navigation, particularly for those with mobility challenges. To accommodate visual impairments common in dementia and conditions like macular degeneration, the colour scheme has been carefully selected to create strong contrasts between furniture, flooring, and walls, making movement between spaces clearer and more intuitive.
Below is an overview of our plans and what parts of the development may look like. (Please note that these images are provisional and subject to change.)

With so many Jewish families using our services in the area, we will be able to give this long-established community a first-class care and community campus designed to meet their needs, now and into the future.
The memories made at Redbridge Jewish Community Centre (RJCC) are so important to us and to the community, so we have carefully preserved the memorabilia from decades of community life at RJCC, also known to many as Sinclair House or as ‘Club’ to many, which will be displayed at the new Redbridge campus when it opens.

In the meantime, RJCC’s Day Centre and adult Community Centre, will continue in the interim at Woodford Forest United Synagogue until the new site is open. Our centre for people living with dementia, and our MIKE youth leadership programme, will continue to operate from a dedicated space at Vi & John Rubens House until the new campus is open.
We look forward to sharing more photos and news with you, in the coming months.
