Forty-six people joined Jewish Care and Jami to run 1km, 5km or 10km at the Maccabi GB Fun Run at StoneX stadium in Hendon on Sunday 21 June. Participants, ranging in age from 3 to 76, included individuals, couples, families and young people involved in Jewish Care’s B’Nei Mitzvah Programme.
Jewish Care’s mascot, Chava Heart, and the Jami mascot, Jamie, helped start the race with Camp Simcha’s Simi the Lion and JNF’s Phil the Blue Box.
Eleven-year-old Georgia Woolf was one of the runners among our B’Nei Mitzvah programme. She first took part in the event when she was just four years old and again during lockdown. She has been involved with Jewish Care from a young age – from visiting her great grandmother at our Otto Schiff Care Home to taking part in activities like music, art and cheesecake baking on Shavuot. This year, she’s also been volunteering and has chosen to celebrate her bat mitzvah at our Sandringham campus, inviting residents to share in the occasion – a reflection of how much Jewish Care means to her and her family.
Meanwhile, Jonathan and Caroline Holden raised over £2,500 for Jewish Care after completing the 10km run. Caroline’s mum, Audrey, received compassionate care at Lady Sarah Cohen House, and today Jonathan’s mum is a resident at Stella and Harry Freedman House at Jewish Care’s Betty and Asher Loftus Centre campus.
Jonathan says, “The level of care is exceptional. From reception to the care teams, everyone is dedicated and a pleasure to speak with. I cannot think of a better place for my mum in the final stages of her life.”
Families also came together to support Jewish Care. Gideon Lipman with his wife, Leonora, and children Carmelle, Guv, Max and Rafi, ran across both the 10km and 5km races. “Jewish Care steps in to fill a real gap,” says Gideon. “It’s such an important service for our community.”
