Last week, 170 supporters joined us in the splendour of Mansion House for the 103rd Business Breakfast organised by the Business Breakfast Committee raising £35,000 to support Jewish Care’s vital services.
Lord Leigh, has chaired over 70 breakfasts over 25 years, said, “I would like to say a huge thanks to our speaker, David Schwimmer, for taking the time to generously share his insight and give us reasons for optimism at a dark time. I would also like to thank our guests today, and over the years, for their loyal support and generosity, which is greatly appreciated, now more than ever. And our committee for their dedication that has made the breakfasts a great success and will help us to continue to touch the lives of 12,000 people each week in the Jewish community, with warmth and care.”
Since the first Business Breakfast 30 years ago, the event has raised a staggering amount of over
£6 million to help us provide care and support to older people in the community to help us provide care and support to older people in the community.
Jewish Care Chair Marcus Sperber thanked Lord Leigh, saying, “I want to say a heartfelt thank you to Lord Leigh, we are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and heart that he has given to Jewish Care. It is thanks to his vision and leadership that these events have included incredible speakers from politicians to sports personalities and leaders in business and finance, raising more than £6 million for Jewish Care’s vital services.
“We are also delighted that share that Committee member Simon Lyons, will become the new Chair of the Business Breakfasts, and we look forward to continuing this incredible tradition under your leadership, to raise funds which are
more vital than ever.”
“Over the next decade, the number of people in the Jewish community who will need dementia care will increase by 25%, more people will need end of life care than every before, and the number of young people and adults who are living with mental illness and distress is sadly rising as well, whilst facing a national crisis in mental health service provision and older people’s social care.”
Introduced by Alderman, Tim Levene, guest speaker, David Schwimmer, CEO of LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group), shared his background and experiences with guests, “Jewish Care supports thousands of people across the community, and I am very honoured to speak here today, so thank you.” He went on to explain how an American with a degree in English became the CEO of the financial services institution with a 300-year-old history.
Since joining the Group in 2018, David has overseen the transformation of LSEG from a European regional exchange group to a diversified, global leader in financial markets infrastructure and data services. Prior to his role at LSEG, David spent 20 years at Goldman Sachs in a number of senior roles, most recently as Global Head of Market Structure and Global Head of Metals & Mining. David practiced law, and holds a B.A. from Yale University, and postgraduate degrees in law (JD) and international affairs (MALD) from Harvard University and The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, respectively.
